Default Crowded Super Minis

The Super Mini is an exploding segment across Europe currently. Renault has recently booked 100,000 units sold of the Captur in less than one year on the market. Opel and Peugeot have not taken the segment lying down either. Both offer competitive options with the Opel Mokka and the Peugeot 2008. Not to mention the uber present Ford EcoSport and Nissan Juke.

The segment is about to be even more crowded as several new entrants are in development or on the docket for development.

Hyundai is working on their own weapon for the segment called the ix25. The ix25 is expected to debut this April at the Beijing Motor Show. The ix25 sports a boxier appearance than the Captur with the aim of maximizing usable cargo capacity. The ix25 should be one of, if not THE class leader in available cargo capacity. Hyundai has a habit of stretching its vehicles ever so slightly simply to offer best in class cargo. Expect the ix25 to wear Hyundais new design language debuted on the 2015 Genesis. It will share its platform with the i20 hatchback much like the Captur shares with the Clio.

Suzuki is also looking to bust into the segment, they have a prototype currently running around Sweden. The Suzuki concept is believed to be a production version of the iv-4 concept. Production is not slated until 2015.

Lastly is Mercedes, who may possibly be considering to probably with all likely hood produce their X-class based on the Captur. At least thats the story their rolling with right now.

Quote:
“There is the question of what happens below [the GLA],” Mercedes head of research and development, Thomas Weber, told us. “We are watching it closely, but there are other gaps in the range that are more interesting.”

Just like that, the segment is filling up fast!

This segment should be getting more competitive in 2014

It seems like every manufacturer is jumping into every segment possible

It's like a big race now, seems like everyone wants to get in early before it's too late. At least with the market like this it brings a ton of great vehicles.

There is a lot more competition coming out now. Do you think that advantage lies with the models that are already out and getting established, or will newer models have the advantage because they are, well, new? Pricing must vary quite a bit between these different models as well.
